Illustrations

Possible variations for illustrations include the following:

  • 5"x7" cardboard - consider using colored markers or go for a black and white effect by limiting marker use to black. SCAN or DIGITALLY PHOTOGRAPH. Avoid pastels if scanning.
  • If illustrations are too large or too messy (pastels) to scan. Display on a wall and DIGITALLY PHOTOGRAPH the illustration.
  • Consider using foam trays as a base and modeling clay or Plasticine to create the illustrations (see Barbara Reid's books for inspiration). SCAN.
  • 3-D models, dioramas, and paper sculpture may be DIGITALLY PHOTOGRAPHED.
  • Clipart can be used from the variety of free clipart sites. Animations may also be used to creation movement in the story book. See The Counting Story and The Alphabet. Sound files can also me linked into the text so readers can select the text to hear the sound effects. See The Zoo Animals.
