Quick Start

These documents will help the teacher quickly organize a debate.

  • One page tutorial - a brief overview for the teacher of the fundamentals in holding a debate
  • Student handout - This is a two page student aid. It is written in a Q&A format to answer questions a student may have in preparing for a debate. Handy reading for the teacher as well.
  • Using debate in the classroom - from the SEDA site, a wealth of resources for teachers to adapt for their own needs.

Internet Resources

The following are links to Internet based resources. A brief description is given for each item.

  • Debate news and tutorials - extraneous material for the teacher but holds extensive background and tutorial materials. Based in Europe.
  • Sasked materials - this links to the Media 20 materials on teaching debating. It is fairly detailed and most appropriate if the teacher wants to take an indepth approach.
  • Saskatchewan Elocution and Debate Association (SEDA) - this site is home to SEDA. This Association promotes speech and debate activities in English and French and is active throughout the province from grades 6 through 12 and at the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan.
