Information
- Canadian
Culture - This
will familiarize the students with the settlement patterns
of the early pioneers who settled in Saskatchewan and allow
them to to discuss some of the long-term effects of the settlement
of each category of people: Indian, British, French, American,
Central European, Northern European and Asian.

- Introductory
lessons in genealogy
will help students appreciate their own personal past by identifying
significant people, places and events. Links from these elements
to key elements in Canadian history will also give students
a better understanding of their Canadian identity and of the
diversity of Canada's people. (Grades 3,4,5 through 8).
- The
Odyssey of our Ancestors - This activity leads students
to travel along the same migration paths that immigrants to
Canada have taken. They can choose immigrants from different
time periods and follow their journeys to and within Canada.
During the activity the students will make decisions and learn
the consequences of their choices. They can do this activity
alone or with a partner.
- Pack
Up and Go! -This game introduces students to the push-pull
factors that have prompted former immigrants to leave their
country of origin and choose Canada as their new home. Students
will match time periods to the appropriate push and pull factors.
They will also place the arrival of their own ancestors into
a time period and compare their ancestors’ experiences with
that of others in the same time period. Once the online chart
is completed, students can print out their ancestors, place
in time.
- Confederation
Crossword - an interactive crossword puzzle based on important
information about Confederation.

of Saskatchewan. This web page provides historical maps
and information showing cultural settlements in early Saskatchewan.
Included are ethnic bloc settlements, group settlements, and
changing provincial boundaries. Suitable for grade 5 Social
Studies.
- Explorers
- A great resource for Grade Five unit on Explorers and
Fur Traders. It describes the role of the canoe in fur trading
and opening up the west.
- Pier
21 - Immigration Stories - This site (main
site) has a searchable database. Great place for students
to read first hand accounts of various stories of immigration
from 1928-1971.
- Teaching
& Learning About Canada is a site for teachers and
students that provides information and links on Canadian Geography,
History, Politics, Society, Culture, Wildlife, Time Zones,
Graphs, Maps, etc. There is a map of Canada that allows you
to click on a province to get links about that province. This
is a good page to start looking for Canadian links especially
history links.
