Science- Grade Seven: Structures and Design

  • Designing and Building a Pioneer Home (WORD / PDF): In these two lessons, students will learn where Canadian pioneers lived, what their homes looked like and what materials they used.

  • Sodbusters - In this lesson, students examine photographs of sod houses, build a model sod house, and picture themselves living in a "soddie" to gain a firsthand perspective on this important period of history. (American slant - can be modified).

Home Sweet Home: This 14 minute presentation explores the homes of the early 1900's and looks at the evolution of the prairie home from soddy to shack.
