Constructing a Story Shift Activity
(return to the student lesson / return to the teacher lesson)

In this alternate activity, you use the script that you created in Task Three of Mining Mass Media, and then complete the shooting and editing steps in two lessons: Constructing a Story and Shooting and Editing Tape. If you have little time to shoot a new story or wish to focus on adaptation, the shift activity allows you to work quickly through the objectives.

Steps for creation:

  1. Read over the story you created in Task Three of Mining Mass Media.
  2. Edit your story and tighten it up.
  3. Remember you can use the interview footage from the CBC clips as the interview portion, but the story must have a different slant than the CBC story. You are re-inventing the story, not re-telling the story.

You will be able to use this story for the rest of the lessons on creating and filming a television news story:
