Introduction:

Feature reporters have the opportunity to highlight issues, people or groups within their community. The feature reporter must search for a person or group to profile, and then complete exhaustive research in order to find a new and interesting hook for the target audience.

For this project, you will choose a person or group in your community to be the focus of your feature. You will need to complete substantial research and several interviews in order to create a feature segment for a local nightly news television broadcast.The piece must be a minimum of 20 minutes and include two interview segments, one on-location segment, and one in-studio segment. This project requires you to be the anchor and the videographer.

This project requires that you do a great deal of research in order to provide the audience with an in depth profile of the person or group of your choice.

video camera This project requires you to be a videographer. You will need to be comfortable shooting and editing tape. In addition, the statements on the right must be true:
  • You have an interesting subject in mind for your feature
  • Your class has not covered this person or group
  • You are comfortable with new people and in front of a camera
  • You have strong research and interview skills
  • You work best independently with specific guidelines and substantial structure built into your assignments
