Module Three - On Assignment introduction
Student Page
(On Assignment Main Page / Teacher version of this page / Objectives)

On Assignment is the third module of Journalism Studies 20. In the previous two modules your teacher lead you through various lessons focusing on skills you needed to learn and basic content. In this module, you not only choose your assignment as a reporter (topic), you also choose the type of reporter you will be. You may work with others or on your own.

In On Assignment, you are responsible for your own learning. While the teacher will check up on you, give you advice and help if you get stuck, you decide many of the details about how, what, and when you learn. As a result, you have a lot of responsibility for your own success or failure in this module. This is the unit where you prove you have the basic skills of a journalist.

Journalism skills you will demonstrate:

  • managing time
  • composing effective work
  • working independently
  • being unbiased
  • making ethical choices
  • working well with others
  • professionalism
  • narrowing ideas
  • composing for a particular audience
  • researching
  • using technology appropriately
  • abiding by the expectations of your supervisor (teacher) and publisher (school)
lens man This is your opportunity to illustrate the world for others through your own lens. If used properly, this can be the strong statement about the way you think the world is.

All of the assessment and evaluation for this module is based on three things:

  1. How you create your project
  2. The quality of your project
  3. How effectively you worked as a journalist
