Module 3 - On Assignment Group Project

(Newspaper student page / Newspaper teacher page)

Task

Your job is to create a school newspaper. Each reporter must complete a minimum of two articles and two advertisements; the editor will only be responsible for one ad and one article.

You create a newspaper including:

  • a clear visual theme
  • graphics
  • advertisements (including permission it use names of local companies)
  • hard news articles
  • feature stories
  • sports stories
  • editorials
  • photographs

You may also include:

  • lifestyle/feature section
  • classifieds
  • crossword puzzle
  • horoscopes

Look at the page on the timeline and deadlines to see what you should do on a daily basis to complete your project.

Group Composition

  • 4-6 people
  • including at least
    • one editor-in-chief
    • two reporters
    • one photographer
  • in a larger group you could also have
    • a graphic artist
    • an advertising director
    • proofreader and layout expert

To consider: in a larger group, you may need to change the requirements slightly to ensure an equal work load.
For example: if you have designated a proofreader/layout expert, this person may only be responsible for writing one short article so that she can spend most of her time compiling the newspaper and proofreading

Your group is working to create a professional product. This will require attention to detail and the use of desktop publishing software. computer

Objectives

  • all On Assignment projects have some common objectives
  • School newspaper has some specific objectives for just this project
  • you must meet the objectives to obtain a good mark on the project
