Module 3 - On Assignment Group Project
Teacher Page
(return to the On Assignment Main Page / student version of this page / Project Objectives)

Introduction:

An eZine is a virtual magazine designed for reading on the internet. It has a specific target audience, related advertisers, many links and content. Some eZines include audio or video files but the majority are primarily print based. They include images and can be navigated by buttons and additional links.

For this project, students will create an original eZine and publish it on the web. The site will contain a home page, at least two articles per person in the group, graphics and buttons that they generate. It will also have related advertising.

Your role as the teacher:

As the teacher, your role in the eZine project is to help students get the technical resources they need to complete the project. Students will need the ability to FTP (transfer files to a server so they can be seen on the internet) and access to either a digital camera or a scanner. They will also need a computer program for editing images and potentially a web authoring program. If your school cannot provide these tools, student should not attempt this project.

While students who try this project need to have some background in the creation of web pages, you may not have any. This does not mean that they should not try the project. However, they will need support from someone in your division or school who has the following:

  1. Security access to create a spot for your students on the school server.
  2. An Acceptable Use Policy for students and parents to sign before the project starts.
  3. Knowledge of the software or hand coding students will use to create the pages.
  4. The potential to be released occasionally to meet the students during class time.

As a teacher in the eZine project, you also need to complete the roles suggested in the teacher introduction to this module.
