Module 3 - On Assignment Group Project

Introduction:

Students are going to have the opportunity to highlight the many things happening in your school. They will work in a group to create a school newspaper with a specific target audience (the students), related advertisers, photographs and a variety of different stories.

For this project, students will create an original newspaper and publish it for the student body. This newspaper will contain at least two stories and ads per person in the group. It will also have photographs, a professional layout, and a central theme.

Your role as the teacher:

As the teacher, your role in the Newspaper project is to help students make ethical decisions regarding school policy and story focus. You may want to review any pertinent policies and answer questions regarding those policies. Students will need to run their story ideas by you, and you need to ask questions designed to test the quality of student research and vision.

You will also need to help students get the technical resources they need to complete the project. Students will need access to a digital camera or a scanner, a computer program for editing images and potentially a publishing program. If your school cannot provide these tools, student should not attempt this project. Students may also struggle with editing and may need help using the school's editing software. If you cannot provide that help, you will need to make arrangements with a staff member who can.

As a teacher in the Newspaper project, you also need to complete the roles suggested in the teacher introduction to this module.
