Sex, Scandal and Self
Module 1, Activity 8.1 - Introduction to Magazines
Alternate Activity
(Return to the Student Page / Return to the Teacher Lesson)

If the you do not have access to the necessary technology to complete Task Two, here is another idea that looks at the same concepts.

The Search

1. Photocopy or cut out the cover of a magazine

2. Put it on a piece of Bristol board

3. Draw arrows with markers pointing to different ways in which the magazine has targeted their audience (i.e. colours, fonts, cover lines, price)

4. Write on the Bristol board surrounding the photocopy explaining/pointing out how this appeals to the audience being targeted.

5. Title the project to indicate the target audience.

The Presentation

Prepare a short (2-3) minute presentation with partner discussing the following points:

•  what demographic is being targeted

•  the ways the demographic is being targeted

•  whether you think this magazine will be successful or why this magazine is successful
