The Marr House
This house is the oldest building in Saskatoon on its original
site. It is believed to have been built in 1884. Alexander Marr
and his family moved into the house. At that time the house was only half
the size it is now and the upstairs was not complete.
What was the Marr home used as during the Riel Rebellion?
Nutana Collegiate was the first secondary school built
in Saskatoon. Many of the staff and students fought in WWI and WWII. These
young, brave people went to war so that we can enjoy peace today. Many
wondered if they would come back to Saskatoon. Sadly, not everyone was
lucky enough to return.
This school has a collection of artwork that acts as a memorial for students
and staff who have died fighting in war.
Grace Westminster United Church
When the Temperance Colonists arrived to this new land of promise, they
realized they had no place of worship. What did they do?

You may be surprised to learn that this is the oldest home in Saskatoon.
Often, rooms were rented out to newcomers who were waiting for their own
homes to be built. A New Year's Party was held in this home and EVERYONE
in the town attended!
What special event was held in this home?
This building was the Garrison home. This building still
contains the original stonework in the basement. The house was used as
a private residence, boarding house and a jail.

The Broadway Theatre was built in 1946.This movie theater
was very modern when it was built. It even had a crying room, which was
a place to take crying children so that they would not disturb other movie
watchers!

Today the theatre is still being used for concerts, films and plays.

When pioneers came to this new settlement, they discovered that the colony
was lacking a few services. There were no fire departments, churches,
schools, electricity or telephones. In 1911, the first fire department
was established. This was the first Fire Hall and it is the only early
remaining fire hall to exist today.

What was originally behind the Fire Hall that is no longer there?
Victoria School did not always look as it does today. It began
as a small stone schoolhouse , then a second building was built, and finally
the school as you see it now.
