THE ROYAL PROCLAMATION
OF 1763
For First Nations people in Canada the Royal Proclamation of 1763 is almost always introduced as the first piece of evidence in courts showing that native people have title to the land.
ACTIVITY 1. Read the portion of the Royal Proclamation dealing with native people. List four important statements that it makes about aboriginal peoples and the land. Use the annotation if you need to.
