site will help you do the following activities.
ACTIVITIES
1. Go online and find a map showing the Nisga'a land claim settlement
area for northern British Columbia.
2. Economic Development is clearly tied to land. For the Nisga'a people
of northern B.C. settlement of land claims has led to a potential for
economic development. Given the section dealing with Nisga'a lands,
answer the following questions.
a) How much land is covered
under the Nisga'a settlement and what communities fall within the
treaty area?
b) Can Non Nisga'a residents
own land within the settlement area?
c) Can the nations land
mass increase in size and if so how is this done?
d) Who owns the mineral
rights within the treaty area? Explain why these mineral rights would
prove an economic benefit to the Nisga'a people.
e) Will this settlement
create economic prosperity for the Nisga'a people? Explain and support
your answer.
