What
are Self Monitoring Strategies?
Self-monitoring
strategies are plans used to increase independence in academic,
behavioral, self-help, and social areas.
What
is its purpose?
In
reading, the ability to self-monitor meaning enables students to
select and use strategies to improve comprehension. Readers
who self-monitor know when their reading makes sense and when it
does not. If comprehension is blocked, they know what strategies
to use to repair it. Self-monitoring is a significant component
of comprehension.
