| Pillars
of the Ethical Person Parthenon
| * |
Safety:
The Safety Pillar addresses the policies, procedures
and protocols that should be in place and understood
by school staff to ensure that all students
and staff are safe, respected and treated fairly.
|
| * |
Education: Teaching
students the values and skills so that they
can develop into an Ethical Person is too important
to be left to “teachable moments”
and must be specifically and deliberately planned
for as part of the curriculum. The “Education
Pillar” contains activities, resources,
lessons, units of study and teaching strategies
that help teachers develop Ethical Students.
|
| * |
Building
a Positive Learning Community /Climate:
Students and staff should be able
to expect to learn and work in a safe and respectful
environment. Every school should have plans/processes
in place which develop and maintain such a climate.
|
| * |
PD/Research:
The division emphasis on Professional Learning
Communities has made research and PD more of
a priority. School plans should include relevant
and timely opportunities for staff better support
them as they work towards developing the Ethical
Person.
|
| * |
Partnerships:
The development of Ethical Person
is not the sole responsibility of the school.
Partnerships are vital to achieving this goal.
Many resources and supports are available to
help schools in this regard.
|
| * |
Communication:
It is very important that all stakeholders
understand our goal, how we are planning to achieve
that goal and our success to date at achieving
it. Schools should use many and varied communication
tools to share what is happening and success that
have been attained. |
