General Resources


Tourism Saskatchewan - This site has a lot of useful
information for teachers and students who are researching Saskatchewan. There is also a Kids Corner page that has some colouring sheets.


Virtual Saskatchewan - This online magazine has heaps of interesting information on various aspects of Sasaktchewan!

Virtual Museums and Comprehensive Heritage Sites

  • The Virtual Museum of Métis History and Culture: This site has movie clips, photos, and heaps of print resources about Métis culture and lifestyle. A great place to get background information required to teach about various aspects of Métis history and culture. They also have a page of links to other sites that may provide additional information.
  • Northern Saskatchewan Heritage Site: Features information on all aspects of living in the north - including links to several northern communities.
  • Saskatchewan Heritage Online: An interactive web site exploring the fascinating world of Saskatchewan archaeology.
  • Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre: Our Elders - This site is home to numerous interviews with elders regarding their life experiences.
  • The Virtual Keeping House: First Nations Gallery - View artifacts online.
  • Saskatchewan First Nations Heritage Site - The Saskatchewan First Nations Heritage Site is designed to serve as a resource for compiling and sharing information related to the language, culture, arts, history, and current affairs of the Dene, Woodland Cree, Swampy Cree, Plains Cree, Saulteaux, Dakota, Nakota, and Lakota. It has been established to assist First Nations people, educators, students, government agencies, and the general public in gaining access to information pertaining to Saskatchewan First Nations.

Historic Sites

  • Wanuskewin Heritage Park - Wanuskewin's mission is to operate, on a sustainable basis, a world recognized Heritage Park under the leadership and guidance of First Nations people that contributes to increasing public awareness, understanding and appreciation of the cultural legacy of the Northern Plains First Nations people.

  • A Century of Education - photos and video clips about schools and teachers from the Arcola Moose Mountain area
  • School Days Gone By - The “School Days Gone By” exhibit, produced by the Morse Museum and Cultural Centre, outlines various aspects of rural school life in Saskatchewan from 1912 to 1979. This exhibit allows people to reminisce or learn about the types of items you would see in a typical small town prairie school.
  • Communities - A Scholastic resource with ideas and resources for teaching about communities.

Grade 3
  • Narratives of Saskatoon - These narratives were either sent in to the University and the Historical Association or were prepared directly under the inspiration of the Association in the course of its efforts to preserve the early history of the settlement and of the City.
  • Historical Saskatoon - An interactive tour of historical Saskatoon and teacher resources for teaching about Saskatoon. Many activities can be adapted for other communities.
