1)    Each individual will research information for the following questions before working on group tasks:

*   What is biodiversity?

*   Why is biodiversity important?

*   How can humans impact biodiversity?

*   How can we conserve biodiversity?

Group Task:

This team will do research on animal diversity in an urban forest and create a PowerPoint presentation that reflects their findings and makes recommendations for plant diversity.

1.    Choose an urban forest near your school that you can take a field trip to.

2.    Decide on research role for each individual on team

a.    Research roles could be divided into the following categories:

                                                             i.      Mammals

                                                           ii.      Insects

                                                         iii.      Reptiles/amphibians

                                                        iv.      Birds

                                                          v.      Humans

3.    Define individual responsibilities within each group

4.    Create an action plan and timeline

5.    Take a field trip to an urban forest to search for signs of animals and compile data on animal diversity (use plant guide books for identification)

6.    Take digital pictures of animal life and signs for PowerPoint presentation

7.    Research information on these animals on the web – download pictures for PowerPoint presentation

8.    Design presentation

9.    Publish and present
