Collection: Understanding Populations, Samples, Biases:
This activity has students participating in gathering
simple data from populations, samples, and biased samples
so that they are able to discuss the role that populations,
samples, biases and other factors play in the process
of collecting data. This documents provides you with
all the required materials. |

activity demonstrated to students factors that may
make sampling biased and gets them thinking about
how dependable data collection is when based on a
sample that may be influenced by other factors (too
small in size, etc). |

the processes of defining, designing, collecting,
processing, and reporting data collected through a
survey.
You may wish to complete only the initial 3 sections
(defining, designing, and collecting) parts of this
activity initially. Once student are familiar with
processing and interpreting data they will be better
able to complete the following two sections. |
