WHAT ARE SASKATCHEWAN LEARNING RESOURCE PACKS?

Saskatchewan Learning Resource Packs are collections of activities that were designed by expert math teachers. These activities involve a number of different instructional strategies and they encourage students to understand mathematical concepts at higher levels. Often students will "discover" certain rules by completing an activity, or they will learn first hand when one type of graph or chart may work better than another. The activities may include use of math manipulatives (both common manipulatives and not so common manipulatives), centres and so forth.

These resource packs are full of very useful information and are the handouts given to attendees of any of the Math Workshops given by Saskatchewan Learning.

These files are available to you in both the WORD (.doc) and PDF format so that you can take the activity "as is" (PDF) or take it in a form that you can easily modify (.doc)to suit your own needs.

  • Of Dice and Men - introduced using the NFB animated video students investigate several scenarios in their communities using probability theory. Activities can stretch over several classes.
  • Sucker Draw - using suckers of different colours in a bag, this activity covers objectives 21-23, 25, 27, 29
  • Theoretical and Experimental Probability - student activities using coins, dice and spinners to compare predicted versus tested results. A table to record the results is included.
  • Rolling a Die - questions and activities using dice
  • Possible Outcomes - a collection of individual and groups activities focused on predicting outcomes including those of compound events. Part of the activity includes an investigation of events with a probability of 0 or 1.
  • Probability Stations - a group of station based activities and games that may be setup for students to rotate through. As a group, it will take 2-3 class periods for students to complete all the activities.
  • Complete list - if you prefer to view or print the entire list
