The objective of this activity is to familiarize yourself with the concept of WORLD time zones. You will be required to answer several questions about the WORLD time zone map.

Materials: You will need to print the following worksheet to keep at the computer with you as you work through the activities.

    • WORLD Time Zone Answer Sheet (WORD format / PDF format)
    • You may wish to have an atlas at your side for a resource. Prior Knowledge Required: You must know in which country Greenwich is located. You must understand what degrees longitude are and how they apply to maps.
    • It would be beneficial to do the Canadian Time Zones Online Activity before this activity.

Procedure:

  • Print off the worksheet. Follow these directions.
    • Preview the Map: To answer the questions outlined on the answer sheet, first study the map and become familiar with what type of information is available to you. NOTICE that the time for the Northern Hemisphere is labeled at the top and time for the southern hemisphere is labeled at the bottom of the map.
    • Reflection: The purpose of this section os for you to evaluate your own learning and to put your learning into your own words. You may also come up with other "tools" that will help your remember what you have learned (i.e. sketch, mnemonic devices, and so forth).
  • Once completed, hand your answer sheet in to your instructor.
