The Time Zone maps used in this lesson were created by http://www.worldtimezone.net.

The objective of this activity is to familiarize yourself with the concept of time zones within Canada. You will be required to answer several questions about time zones.

Materials: You will need to print the following worksheet to keep at the computer with you as you work through the activities.

Procedure:

  • Print off the worksheet. Follow these directions.
    • Preview the Map: To answer the questions outlined on the answer sheet, first study the map and become familiar with what type of information is available to you.
    • Question 4: You may not know the answer to this question and you may not be able to answer it with certainty based on the information on the map. You are required to make an educated guess based on all the information that is available to you from the map and prior knowledge. You may also find useful information on this page to help you answer this question (http://www.worldtimezone.net/daylight.htm)
    • Reflection: The purpose of this section os for you to evaluate your own learning and to put your learning into your own words. You may also come up with other "tools" that will help your remember what you have learned (i.e.. sketch, mnemonic devices, and so forth).
  • Once completed, hand your answer sheet in to your instructor.
