Below are listed lesson banks and lesson plans from a variety of Internet sources. The Web Sites listed here have been selected to complement and enrich your teaching of the ELA Middle Years Language Arts Curriculum in the Grade 6 Speaking Strand.

• Language Public Speaking Lessons - EdHelpers.com collection of World Wide Web links with a variety of lesson plans dealing with the speaking genre.
• E.L. Easton Materials for Teaching and Learning - this is a collection of lessons and activities dealing with all aspects of the speaking genre including: public speaking, debating, campfire skits, and much more.
• Teacher's.net Lesson Bank - Speaking Skills - a bank of teacher written lesson plans that promote the speaking genre. The bank is being added to continuously.
• Storytelling Lesson Plans and Activities - This collection of story-related activities, projects and games-developed by storyteller/author Heather Forest for her storytelling workshops with students, teachers, and librarians-can be used by educators in a school setting to encourage speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
• Delivering a Persuasive Speech - a lesson plan from Teachnet.com outlining how to have students prepare and deliver a persuasive speech. Good links to teacher resources as well.

Individual Lesson/Unit Plans

• It's Up for Debate! - Debates are a staple of middle and high school social studies classes. Education World offers five debate strategies and extra lessons for students of all ages. Included: Debate fairy tale ethics, use four corner and inner/outer circle strategies, more!
• Moving Toys - Students will investigate a collection of moving toys, then plan, design and make a moving toy based on previously discussed criteria. At the end of the lessons students will present their toy to the class as a seminar, explaining the outcomes and highlights of the construction process.
• Tell Me a Story - An oral language unit in which students use story telling techniques to share experiences and retell a range of stories on to audio tape. This unit could be adapted for any level.
• The Storyteller - Oral language lessons in which students use story telling techniques to read and retell a range of stories to an audience. These lessons could be adapted for any level.
