Description

Marvels Then and Now is about wonders from ancient and modern times. In this unit, students will learn about various wonders of the ancient and modern worlds, including natural wonders such as fossils and some amazing structures built by human hands. They will also explore methods scientists use to unravel the mysteries of ages and civilizations past. Specifically, the unit centres around discoveries such as Egyptian mummies and a Stone Age man found preserved in ice.

• Ancient Egypt Revealed - Explore and find information on ancient egypt. Create a PowerPoint presentation, concept map, and narrative on your findings.
• Illinois Smith and the Seven Wonders of the World - Recruited by the famous Illinois Smith and an anonymous benefactor, students embark on an expedition to explore each of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and determine which three are most worthy of renovation.
• The Iceman - Who Keeps Him? (Writing a Persuasive Paragraph) - As a member of the team that removed Otzi from the frozen mountain, students are given the task by the governments of Austria and Italy to decide which country should keep Otzi, the Iceman. Before making their decision, they must read and gather facts and figures which must be studied in order to make thier writing convincing. In a persuasive essay, that will be read by the leaders of Austria and Italy, they must make their case clear and supported with facts.
