Description (from Crossroads Series)

As students grow up, they will face many personal situations that call for both physical and emotional courage. This unit explores many forms of courage, not just daring physical acts students are familiar with from movie or TV. They will explore the inner courage it takes to make a life-or-death decision, the courage needed to change and grow, and the courage that allows a person to accept himself or herself.

Students sould have opportunities to experience many genres in this unit: short stories, poetry, diary entries, non-fiction profiles, and comic strips. They should also have the chance to write a personal narrative, a biographical profile, a sequel to a short story, and poetry, and to gain practice editing and revising their work. Researching, creating visuals and extending oral communication are also explored in this unit.
