Human Body Systems

Properties and Changes of Materials

  • Chem4kids
A full range of chemistry topics with lessons and links
  • Building Molecules From Atoms
A lesson plan on building molecules from atoms
  • Whats the Matter
    Creating Atoms lesson plan
  • Atoms Family
How big is an atom? Try this experiment to find out for yourself. Cut " . . . a twenty-eight centimeter strip of paper in half as many times as you can. If you can cut the strip of paper in half thirty-one times you will end up with a piece of paper the size of an atom. Each monster member of the Atoms Family introduces a topic such as Atoms and Matter, Energy Conservation, and Light Waves. Under each topic, you will find a variety of activities and learning pages for grades four through twelve
    .
  • The Movement of Liquid Molecules
An activity through which students will be able to visualize and better understand the concept of the constant motion of molecules.
  • Kinetic Molecular Theory with Popcorn
A game in which popcorn kernels are used as molecules and margarine is the bonding force. Heating produces physical changes which are analogous to the melting and boiling of matter.
  • Phases of Matter
Shows how the element or molecule changes phases at different temperatures.
  • Matter
A collection of websites about Matter.

Forces and Simples Machines

  • Simple Machine Parts
Students will take apart and examine different parts in toys. Through this they will better understand the concept of cause and effect in simple machines.
  • Marvelous Machines
This is a series of experiments about simple machines: levers, wheels and inclined planes.
  • Exploring Simple Machines WebQuest
A web quest in which students identify different types of simple machines so that they can invent their own machines.
