Word Problems - Percentage - Addition/Subtraction - Data Management

 

 

According to the SASK Math Curriculum, beginning at grade 3 students should be able to used published information to acquire data. Using the data from the City of Saskatoon 2003 Civic Election, students can apply various math concepts. GR 3 and UP

  • Teacher Handout - Published Data, (with percentage calculations) learning objectives, and suggested activities.
  • Student Sheet of Published Data - Local data: Civic Election 2003, City Wide Results. Percentage calculations removed so students can calculate them.
  • Pioneer Math: To do this activity, pretend that you are beginning a journey on the pioneer trail. Your wagon is only able to carry 1,500 pounds of supplies. What items would you take on your journey and how much of each item? Make sure you don't go over the 1,500 limit. Talk about why you decided to take the items you took.
