Process

Scientists have divided rocks into four basic types:

Igneous (formed by heat)

Sedimentary (formed by water and settling)

Metamorphic (formed by heat and pressure)

To be successful in this challenge, it will be important to follow these four steps:

STEP ONE

With a partner, research the three kinds of rocks and for each rock type make a chart and fill it in as you begin learning about each rock's beauty, strength, durability, availability and resistance to wolves. (This is a rough copy so just write down the information in jot note form as you find it). Use these links to guide you in finding the information.

STEP TWO

Now choose which of the three rock types you think will be best for your client based on the information you have written into your chart. Recopy the chart so that it is suitable for presentation before moving on to the next step.

STEP THREE

Now, using what you know and remember about the three little pigs, draw, color or paint a detailed picture of the house the way you imagine it would look. Include as much information as you can - the color, the shape, how many floors or levels high, number of bedrooms, baths, etc.

STEP FOUR

Present your findings to the three little pigs, using the chart you have created to sell them on the construction material. (They are busy people and must hear a large number of presentations so you are limited to five minutes). Then show them your house design in hopes that it will be the one chosen for construction.
