Year End Ideas / Projects - Some fun ways to finish out the year with your class! Find an idea or two you can use in your classroom to make the end of the year fun & educational for your students.

 

June Resources - Lessons, projects, and resources to bring June into the classroom! Ideas and resources for end-of-the-year activities, summer reading resources and lists, and Father's Day activities.

 

 

  • Consider using a digital projector to project the multimedia items for entire class viewing (Flash movies, interactive tours, graphing activities, etc).
  • Many of the sites have printable resources for students and teacher facilitated lesson plans.
  • Send home website addresses connected to your classroom topics in your newsletters or list them on your classroom websites. Parents and students can explore the sites from home.
  • Consider assigning websites for additional practice, a place to begin research, or as an enrichment activity. 
  • Use online resources as CARE partner activities.

 

 

 

Web Sites for Teachers and Students

 

  • Welcome to BrainsRule! Learn about your Brain - An awesome interactive website for kids with games and activities designed to learn all about the brain. The teacher section has tons of ready made teacher lessons that can be linked to the online student activities if desired.
  • Bloom's Taxonomy Blooms Digitally – An update to Bloom's revised taxonomy to account for the new behaviours emerging as technology advances.
  • Media Literacy 101: Power to the People  - In world of infinite information, there's a difference between being tech savvy and life savvy? A discussion of why students need to become news literate.
  • Character Education - Cultivating knowledge for purposeful living, students learn through literature, art, and humanities activities the benefits and consequences of behavior.
  • In persuasive writing, a writer takes a position FOR or AGAINST an issue and writes to convince the reader to believe or do something. Check out these great resources for persuasive writing:
    • Persuasive Writing through Advertising - Students will interpret their thoughts about various pictures, symbols, and slogans; create a visual representation of various feelings and emotions to infer what the advertiser could be selling the consumer; and create an advertisement using the various learned techniques.
    • Can You Convince Me? Developing Persuasive Writing - Through a classroom game and handouts, students are introduced to the concepts of lobbying for something important to them (or that they want) and making persuasive arguments. Students become aware of the techniques used in persuasive oral arguments and apply them to independent persuasive writing activities.
    • Argument & Persuasive Writing - Includes lesson plans and activities for teaching argument and persuasive writing -- helps develop Web research and persuasive writing skills as they create original works.
  • TEACH Magazine.com - An accompaniment to the TEACH magazine, this Canadian website covers issues and topics of interest to any K-12 educator. Check out two of their resources:
  • EcoKids - EcoKids is Earth Day Canada's environmental education program for youth who care about the planet.This site is full of games and activities about the environment.
  • NRDC’s Green Squad - Check out "The Green Squad" to learn how to make your school safe for the environment, and your health! Students can travel from room to room in a virtual school, clicking on various items to discover which ones are harmful to the environment.
  • Studying Earth Science? Earthquakes in the Last Week uses Google Maps with data provided by the U.S. Geological Survey to show earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater in the past seven days. Suggested activities: Study patterns, then correlate them with plate tectonics and faults. Click the map markers for further information regarding the specific quake.
  • Math Videos for Math 10 to Math C30 -
  • LearnAlberta - Search this site for interactive activities at various grade level and subject areas.
  • End of the Year Slideshows – Kick ‘em Up a Notch! - Describes creative ideas for using digital photo tools to enhance end-of-school-year projects.
